A controversial title to begin which will most likely be a very contentious article.
The poor are poor not because of lack of intelligence, drive or opportunity even though these are all factors in their continued misery. It is there attitude and their mindset that keeps them in poverty. Hard work is not sufficient to get out of the poverty trap. You need to know what to spend your time and money on and when to exercise self control to do without.
I see more tattoos on those who are straddling the poverty line than on those who are more well off. Considering this is frequently a barrier to employment it’s rather a waste of resources as it hinders your chances in life rather than improving them. Spending money on your appearance is good but the most heavily made up girls are always those from lower income families. They also tend to be the ones that wear excessive amounts of jewellery, fake nails and fake tan. So the problem is never they don’t have any money. It’s that they are spending it unwisely on short term gains that need to be repeated often for the appearance to be kept up.
Same when it comes to food. It’s expensive to eat out but the fast food restaurants of Mac Donald’s etc are constantly filled with mothers feeding their extensive broods. Once in a while this maybe ok but to rely on this as a method of controlling your children shows a lack of self respect both for yourself and your children. Your supposed to be showing them good habits in terms of behaviour but you are reinforcing your own negative traits as you think there is no alternative.
Food is fuel and if your putting inferior quality food into your body then you are not going to be able to achieve anything worthwhile. Without energy the brain or body cannot function correctly. A person is made of what they eat so it’s of the utmost importance to ensure that what enters is not going to harm you or any child that may currently be growing inside you.
Teaching your offspring to cook is something that will pay dividends in the future as raw unprocessed food is always cheaper and more nutritious. You have all the time and energy in the world if you don’t waste it on social media, television and the internet. I’m not saying you should go completely without those things as you still need to connect with people and be informed of what is happening in the world but be mindful of how much of your time and energy is consumed by watching funny cat videos etc.
As you might be able to tell by now I am quite passionate about helping people to make the very best of their lives. We are all born with talents and strengths just like we all have deficits and weaknesses. It is up to us to improve what we were born with so that we are utilising everything as much as we can. This way the world we were born into will be a pale imitation of the world that we made as a result of our efforts.
